Holiday DIY: Metallic Garland Wreath With Lights
I have to admit that out of all the Christmas decorations, wreaths have never been my thing. Growing up my Mom would spend hundred of dollars to have Christmas wreaths custom made. They were always very elaborate. They’d have dried fruit or frosted (If you’re from the South you know what I mean by frosted) evergreens hanging from them, but I was never impressed. Although, recently I’ve seen a few tutorials floating around the web (aka Pinterest) for these metallic garland wreaths and I fell in love. I just had to give one a shot. I hope you’re as into it as I am!
Materials: Lights, Garland, Pipe Insulation
Pipe insulation is an alternative to the wreath form. If you can’t make it to your local craft store to pick up a form, skip (yes honey skip!) on over to the hardware store and pick up about 4 feet of pipe insulation. Circle up the pipe insulation and use duct tape to connect the two ends.
Wrap the strand of lights around the insulation. It’s important to wrap the lights first so that we can hide the wire with the garland. I used a piece of duct tape to secure the strand.
I really wanted hot pink mini lights but they didn’t have any at my Target. #Fail Please send your girl a tweet if you know where I can find some pink lights!!!
Wrap the garland around the insulation being sure to cover the wires of the lights.
So fabulous!!!
And it looks good all lite up at night. #AllOfTheLights

Great Wreath idea, thank you for sharing. I have an idea how you can achieve hot pink lights: Use Plaid’s glass paint (in hot pink) and paint those darling little lights. I’ve done this in aqua for a peacock wreath a few years ago, and the finished product holds up well, and worth the time it took to color each light. Leave the lights on the string, and hang the string do that it doesn’t touch anything, over a drop cloth. Now you can color the lights without them sticking to anything. You can also paint the cord/ string to blend in with your color scheme. Good luck and have fun.

How did you secure the garland?

When I started teh garland wrap I ties it in a knot then started wrapping. When I finished I just tucked the end under one of the loops and it’s stayed. However, my suggestion is to use a dab of glue or maybe some tape to secure the ends!
