Concealer is an effective makeup tool that can remove dark circles under the eyes as well as blisters, redness, and scars. The range of concealers is wide and because there are many different varieties to choose from, it is important to find the right product for exactly what you want to hide. Different needs usually require different products. If you use the concealer incorrectly, it can instead highlight skin imperfections. A creamy, light pink and light-reflecting concealer is best suited to hide dark circles under the eyes. Generally, you are drier under the eyes and a more liquid product that does not get cakey and folds in the creases under the eyes is preferred.
A light-reflecting concealer can also be used to highlight and enhance areas of the face, such as cheekbones and amorphous arch. Add that type of concealer after foundation so that the effect doesn’t go away. Most enlightening concealers have a built-in brush or sponge, otherwise use a synthetic, narrow brush to apply with. Feel free to dot out small dots where you need, for example under the eyes, and then blur by gently dabbing the color with your ring finger. Do not rub as the thin skin under the eyes is sensitive. Finish by brushing on a transparent powder for a matte effect and more durable results.
Firmer concealer is suitable for covering blemishes, redness, and scars. The concealer should be as close to your skin tone and foundation as possible. Solid concealer, which is generally a bit drier in texture, can be applied before foundation. Use your finger, brush or sponge applicator. Gently dab over the area you want to cover. Slowly build up coverage in thin layers. Too much concealer can give the opposite effect and the blister is even more visible. Finish with a transparent powder to fix the concealer over the area.
1. L’Oréal Paris Lumi Magique Concealer
Affordable and easy-to-apply concealer that reflects light and looks natural.
This is a liquid, light-reflecting concealer, mainly for dark shadows like the eye area. The texture is thin and gives more luster than coverage which means it can also be used as a highlighter on the cheekbones. The finish is moist and naturally luminous without being the least shimmery or glittery, just natural. Can advantageously be used over a more coverage foundation, for example, if you have very dark rings. Because it is so shiny, the limited color range works.
2. Glominerals Camouflage Oil-free Concealer
Cover and durable concealer with a creamy texture that gives natural results. Creamy, pigment-rich and coverage concealer that hides just about everything, from blemishes, marks, scars, acne to dark circles. It camouflages through tattoos. Despite the coverage, the result is relatively natural. The formula contains nourishing ingredients such as green tea and antioxidants.
3. Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer
Concealer that provides good coverage and fresh results, natural results.
An all-encompassing creamy concealer that neither cakes nor disappears patches during the day as long as it is used with moderation. The Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer is a gem when it comes to hiding everything from plitters to dark rings. In addition, it works just fine in combination with lines in the skin – where it does not accumulate in the same way that many other concealers tend to do.
The shade range is rich with 15 colors to choose from. Although this is a concealer that costs a bit more, it is clearly evident that it comes from Bobbi Brown (not to be confused with singer Bobby Brown), which is really good on basic products overall. The price is well invested if you want a product that you can feel safe with throughout the day and into the small hours. Just remember that you come a long way with a little product. If you apply in excess you also risk that the product will slip during the day to a greater extent than otherwise.
4. NYX Professional Make Up HD Photogenic Concealer Wand
This is a real power pack for concealer that effectively hides most things, from dark rings to red lots. The range of colors is great. If you want, you can add green, yellow or lavender colored concealers in the same line to use the product in an even more efficient way.
The formula feels light on the skin and is easy to apply. The coverage ratio can vary from medium to fully covering. Be careful in areas with deeper lines as it sometimes happens that the product collects a little right there. NYX Professional Make up HD Photogenic Concealer Wand is also experienced to add a bit of luster, which is great as this reflects light in a way that makes the skin look almost flawless.
This is a great concealer for some money. It is difficult to find something with the same power as NYX Professional Make up HD Photogenic Concealer Wand even if you climb upwards in price ranges.
5. Clarins Instant Concealer
Covering concealer with a lot of shine and good durability. This concealer is light reflective and in liquid form. First and foremost, it is designed to treat the eye area and reduce dark circles. In addition to illuminating pigments, it also has a little pink in it which neutralizes and corrects. A silky texture that, despite its covering, never feels too heavy. Sits semi-matte with a discreet luster. The narrow opening is hygienic and gives exactly the right amount.
6. Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer
Here, on the one hand, we have a fantastic product, which on the other hand comes in a package that is not as good as the content.
Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer is a really good product that effectively covers dark circles under the eyes with its small yellow tone. The formula is lightweight and stays where it should be, without falling into fine lines. Had it not been for the packaging, this concealer would have been able to easily bring home the profit in our test.
But the large and haphazard applicator that sits at the top of the bottle is beechy, blurry, in the name of honesty, quickly feels quite soggy. It is certainly possible to remove and wash, but it is always better with a product where everything feels well thought out – from the contents to the packaging. That is not the case with Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer, although the content weighs up a lot in the final rating.
7. Nyx Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer
Affordable and easy-to-apply concealer. Mousse-like texture. Creamy concealer with a beautiful whipped, mousse-like texture. It is easy to apply, slides on the skin smooth and easy to get even, but it takes a long time before it settles and needs to be fixed with powder. The name is a little misleading, it is not totally comprehensive, but enough to hide most things in a natural way. Durability is not the best and it is easy to rub it off during the day.
8. Yves Rocher Flawless Skin Concealer
Very coverage with good durability available in many different colors
Yves Rocher Flawless Skin Concealer is a soft and creamy concealer that comes in the form of a stick. It lights up and is at the same time very covering.
This makes the concealer suitable for both dark rings and blisters. Despite its coverage, it does not look cakey. Flawless Skin Concealer blends easily with the skin and gives a soft finish even though the feeling in the end result can be a bit heavy. The pen is perhaps somewhat unhygienic but at the same time very practical for getting the cream in the right place. However, gently grease with your finger afterward to smooth the edges. During the day the concealer sits well.
9. Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Concealer
This concealer goes well into the skin and has a luxurious design. With a simple push of the button at the top, a just enough amount of concealer is portioned out. The application is done either with the light brush or with your fingers. YSL Touche Éclat is easily absorbed by the skin and leaves no visible traces behind. The product is very dry.
Covering dark circles under the eyes after a sleepless night is done easily with this concealer. The dark areas are illuminated and given a more vibrant overall impression. The product can also be used in other dark areas that need a touch-up. However, pimples or blemishes are less well covered as the red glows through. To spell them out, complementing with other makeup is required.
10. Maybelline New York Fit Me Concealer
A natural concealer that is easy to apply to the skin. Liquid, multifunctional concealer with which it is possible to attenuate shadows under the eye and to cover pimples, but only to some extent. Gives a semi-matte finish. The light consistency is easy to apply and get even, the result is natural but not sufficient enough for many. If you need more powerful weapons against pimples, stains and dark rings, you must turn elsewhere.
11. Yves Rocher Radiant Youth Corrector Pen
This concealer does not rub after drying and sits all-day Yves Rocher Radiant Youth Corrector Pen is a light concealer with a light texture. The product adapts quickly to the skin tone. It works well around the eye area, but it is a little too shiny to cover blemishes and redness. Once the concealer has dried, it sits very well and does not become glossy. It also does not fold into the eyelid. However, it can fold into wrinkles, making it better suited to younger skin.
The Yves Rocher Radiant Youth Corrector Pen can be a good alternative if you have a younger complexion and are mainly looking for enlightened eyes.
