Powder Foundation VS Liquid Foundation – What is the Difference?

What foundation you should use is a lot about your own skin type, but most of all it is a matter of taste and also a matter of brand and quality.

When we say powder foundation, we need to emphasize that there are two foundations in powder form. A powder foundation is in short a powder that gives a lot of coverage and you do not know the content without looking at the table of contents, and mineral foundation is briefly crushed mineral stones, some contain additives but there are also those that are 100% pure minerals.

There are pros and cons to different foundation types, but if you are unsure or not able to read so much, we recommend mineral powders! Preferably with 100% minerals. It suits all skin types, is good for the skin, easy to use, hard to fail with and the risk is not as high that you are wasting money on foundations that you will not like.

The advantage of a liquid foundation is that once you find the right one you can get a lot of benefits, caring additives and longer durability eg. But it’s harder to find the right one!

Skin types Mineral foundation:

  • Fits all skin types
  • Covers pimples well
  • Matts down oily skin
  • Slightly bacteria-killing
  • Suitable for sensitive skin, even rosacea

Skin types liquid foundation

  • Moisturizes and heals
  • Good for mature and dry skin
  • Does more for the skin with vitamins

As mentioned, mineral foundation is suitable for all skin types because it gives a good result to everyone and because it does not “do anything” with the skin but allows it to breathe and be almost as if it were unmasked. Do you need more help with your skin, eg extra moisture during the day, so a liquid may be recommended? There are, for example, foundations with vitamins and anti-age effects.

Acne-prone and oily skin often need a lot of coverage and a matte result. Then we recommend mineral powders for that you can easily apply more of in the areas that need more coverage without the result being uneven. You can apply a lot without getting a cakey result, and the skin stays matte longer as the powder absorbs excess oil better than a liquid foundation. Minerals also have a light bactericidal effect which is good for acne.

A liquid foundation can make your skin look shiny faster and even “slip off” or “melt away” during the day if it is oil-based. A water-based foundation that gives a matte result is recommended. Don’t forget to powder your liquid foundation after application!

Dry/mature skin can also use mineral powders even though many believe they will get a powdery appearance. But a mineral powder blends so well into the skin and is so fine-grained that it becomes supernatural and does not settle at all in dry areas or in wrinkles, unlike a powder foundation without minerals – it can give a powdery result.

If you choose a liquid foundation, you will usually get the best results with an oil-based foundation on your dry skin, preferably with moisturizing substances!

Sensitive skin (eg, skin with rosacea or that easily gets rash) usually needs products with as few ingredients as possible, so choose a mineral foundation with 100% minerals.

Application – Mineral foundation

  • Fast application
  • Does not need any powder
  • Not sticky
  • Hard to fail

Application – liquid foundation

  • Does not dust
  • Covering grade depends on the product
  • Different shapes – mousse, thin.

What you like to work with is almost 100% a matter of taste. The biggest difference here is probably the degree of coverage, a liquid foundation you usually put a layer on and then the coverage depends on whether you have a foundation with a lot of coverage or a little. A mineral foundation can be deposited more/ less in different parts of the face and it is rather the amount of product that determines the degree of coverage.

The result after the actual application will be about the same if you compare a good mineral powder with a good liquid foundation that suits your skin. It is the most important route that matters!
