DIY: Coin ‘N Rhinestone Pendant Necklace
My apologies in advance because this tutorial is totally selfish! It has nothing to do with a current fashion trends or celeb inspo, but this project has been on my DIY “to-do” list for almost two years. Now I know I’m not the only one with a DIY “to-do” list… okay!
Two Summers ago, my Mom and I took the most amazing Mother/ Daughter European vacation. We spent a week in Paris then took the train and spent a week in London. I brought home with me some European and English currency. The English pence has Queen Elizabeth on it and reminded me of the Chanel coin. I thought turning my pence into a pendant necklace would make the perfect souvenir.

Materials: A Coin, Rhinestone Cupchain, Chain, Glue, A Drill
So the biggest obstacle to this project (and probably the reason it’s taken me 2 years to finish it) is figuring out how to get a hole in the coin. Of course I YouTubed it and found tons of videos showing how easy it is to drill a hole in a coin. Now here comes the full disclosure… while I was in the hardware store looking the perfect size drill bit, the sales associate offered to drill the hole for me. Hmmmm what’s a girl to do? Should I be a true DIYer, purchase the $3 bit and actually do it myself? Or should I take the nice man up on his offer and not break a sweat? Needless to say 60 seconds later I left the hardware store with a hole in my coin!
The process was however really easy and absolutely one I could have done at home. Just use a pencil to mark your hole, place the coin on a block of wood and using the correct drill bit (ask your local hardware store professionals for their advice) drill a hole through your coin. Or you could pull a Kristen and kindly ask the nice associate working at your local hardware store or key making place to do it for you. #DIFM (#DoItForMe)
Then, use a strong hold glue to glue your rhinestone cupchain around your coin.
Slip the chain through your coin and enjoy your pendant necklace.
Now I’ll always have a little piece of my London trip with me! This project is a great way to remember that perfect Summer vacation and can be done with any coin. Next I’ll be bringing it back stateside and working my magic on a silver dollar. #LadyLibertyRealness
DIY: Lucite And Neon Knotted Necklace
Last weekend I attended the Lucky FABB cocktail party. While I was chatting with a friend a uber fashionable blogger walked by wearing a fab lucite and neon orange tread necklace. Before I had a chance to ask her where it was from or get my camera out to snap a pic, she was gone. In other news, I’d make the worst paparazzi EVER!
I’ve been seeing these type necklaces pop up all over the place lately. While I may not have been able to get any details about her necklace, I just knew I’d have to make one of my very own.
Materials: Lucite Beads, Neon Thread, A Needle
Thread your neon thread on your needle
TIP: Lucite beads can be purchased at your local bead store. However, I used the beads from an H&M necklace I’d purchased a few months back. #MakeItWork
Double knot your thread 3-4 inches from the end and start threading.
Place our beads onto your thread, knotting the thread between each bead.
Finish your necklace off by double knotting the end. To wear, tie the necklace around your neck.
DIY: Button Brooch Necklace a la Anne Hathaway
Although I wasn’t crazy about her dress, the second I saw Anne Hathaway’s Oscar necklace I thought to myself… CLEARLY SHE READS MY BLOG!!!! lol Her Tiffany & Co necklace reminded me of a petite version of the brooch necklace I crafted a few weeks ago (here). I see you Anne! In honor of Anne’s Oscar win and what has become a little “DIY an Oscar winners necklace” tradition around here, I present to you a DIYable version of Anne’s Oscar night stunner…
Materials: Buttons, Brooch Closures, Safety Pins, Chain, Lobster Claw Closure
Now I have to admit I cheated a little #womp I got lucky and stumbled upon these mini brooches, but don’t worry if you can find any because they’re easy to create. Compile a collection of your favorite rhinestone buttons. Earrings are also a good alternative too. You can pic up basic brooch (or bar) pins at your local craft store (here). They cone in a variety of sizes. Simply remove the shank from the back of your button and use a little E6000 to apply the pin. Allow some time to dry and now you have your mini brooches!
DIY TIP: If the clasp of your pin is not secure and you’re worried about your brooch opening, apply a little glue to your closure to prevent it from opening.
Link your pieces together using the safety pins
Link ‘em up!
Attach the chain to your linked pieces. Use a jump ring, if necessary.
Attache the lobster claw as the closure to your necklace

I have a ridiculous amount of brooches. Seriously I collect brooches like I wear them everyday…with a scarf…pinned to one shoulder of my padded jacket…Designing Women style. I seem to never to be able to pass up a good brooch. And although many of them are vintage and once belonged to my Grandma, I still have more than any normal 20 something girl should own. That’s why I was so thankful when friend Jacey from Damsel in Dior posted pics of her wearing her J.Crew brooch necklace. I was instantly inspired. Enjoy this little video. I know I said the Miu Miu inspired flats were my favorite project of the year, but that was last week! Behold my new favorite project of 2013…

DIY: Two Tone Chunky Chain Necklace
I’m back in LA and back to the business of being crafty. I really enjoyed the time I spent in NYC last week. I left feeling very inspired. Everyone in that city is already extra fancy, but the added pressure of Fashion Week brought out all the fashion fabulosity. I couldn’t help but notice that chunky chain necklaces were a popular look on the streets of The City. Recently, celebs like Rihanna have been spotted rocking the chunky chain and even I got with the program and took my vintage chunky chain necklace for a ride. This trend was the inspiration behind this super easy two tone, two chain DIY project.

DIY: An Open Love Letter To Krylon’s Fluorescent Spray Paint
My neon obsession has blossomed into a full-blown addiction! I started off as just a social neon spray painter, first using it to color my neon satchel then my neon clutch, but somewhere along the way I lost control. Over the past few weeks I’ve collected the Krylon Flourescent Spray Paint in every color and I can’t stop painting! I’m spraying necklaces, shoes, sunglasses, bracelets and so on and so forth. Somebody call Dr. Drew because I’m in need of neon spray paint rehab!
I think it’s time this necklace I bought from Forever 21 last year had a little bit of a makeover. Oh Krylon neon spray paint… Why can’t I quit you?!?!?!?!?
Be sure that when you’re spraying that you are in a well ventilated area and that you protect any surface you might be spraying on from getting damaged.
Spray away!
It may have to apply a couple of coats but when I’d have to say this makeover was a huge success
I wore my new necklace to the FAWN TV launch party last night in Hollywood. I paired it with my Fashion Star dress from H&M and my leopard Rebecca Minkoff clutch.

Did you know this month was Nation Craft Month?I know! I was thinking the same thing…Why isn’t this a National Holiday? Why didn’t we shut down schools and close banks and the post office in honor of National Craft Month? Well don’t worry, I’ve done my part in celebrating the month that honors creativity. I’ve been a very busy and crafty DIY bee all month.
Those of you who follow me on Twitter and Facebook know I attended the Craft and Hobby Association Convention earlier in the year. I love attending CHA because it’s the one time of the year I get to see all the new DIY products that will soon hit the shelves. I always leave the convention inspired and full of DIY ideas. This DIY tutorial is inspired by products I discovered at this years Craft and Hobby Association Convention.
Martha Stewart Crafts always delivers some new fun and innovative products. They recently developed a crafter’s clay that caught my attention. The Martha Stewart Craft’s Clay comes in an easy to use starter kit with 5 different color clay and all the materials you need to help you get started. They even provide 4 silicone molds to help you create shapes. I used the branch mold to create my Max & Chloe inspired branch necklace.
Allow the clay to dry in the open air at least 24 hours. While the clay is drying crate holes with toothpicks so that you can add the chain to the branch once it’s dry.
Another discovery from CHA was the Martha Stewart Liquid Gilding Paint (manufactured by Plaid Crafts) . Seriously, I’m so obsessed! You guys know how much I love metallics and with metallics being such a big trend in fashion this season this product is the perfect addition to your DIY kit.
Think how easy my past metallic DIY projects like the gold cap toe pumps and the iphone case will be with the gold liquid gilding paint.
I know it’s hard to see the necklace in this picture, but I wanted a chance to show off my $750 Milly dress I picked up on sale from Bloomy’s for $150! Gotta love a good sale!!!

I simple added jump rings through the holes I created in the branch and connected the chain to it. Literally just that simple! Add lobster claws clasp to the back of the necklace for a simple closure.

DIY: Rhinestone Necklace Inspired By The 2012 Oscar Red Carpet

There was lots of glitz on last nights Oscars Red Carpet. If I had to pick jusssssst one to take home the best dressed trophy I’d had to pick Gwyneth for that Tom Ford cape number. I could have done without the hair, but I love that her dress was on trend and she took a risk with that cape. It was haute! But there were tons of other trends on the red carpet I was excited to see. One of them being the simple rhinestone necklace. I know, I know it’s totally unusual for me to be attracted to something that’s not so blingy and statementy but sometimes simple, clean and classic makes the loudest statement of all. Now we all know those necklaces on the necks of Penelope, Cameron and Michelle probably cost a trazillion dollars, but here’s a quick and easy way for you to DIY the look.
Materials: Cupchain, Cupchain Connectors, Jump Rings, Lobster Claw
First, attach the cupcahin connector to the end of your chain. Use a pair of plyers to bend down the prongs and secure the connector.
Then using a jump ring attach the lobster claw.
Repeat the same process on the opposite end but just attach the connector and the jump ring.
There’s something so chic and so classic about a simple rhinestone necklace. Here actress Ava Gardner sports one to the 1954 Oscars. I’m not sure which accessory is better her necklace or her date, Frank Sinatra.
Here’s a little Hollywood history: Ava was nominated for her leading role in Mogambo. But it was her boo Sinatra who took home the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in From Here to Eternity (via Parade).

DIY HOME: Door Knob Jewelry Organizer
I have to confess that most times my jewelry box is a haute mess. It’s never very organized and I always end up loosing an earring or spending hours trying to untangle necklaces. At the beginning of the year I vowed to take better care of my accessories and to keep my jewelry organized. You gotta love this shabby chic necklace organizer. I’m so excited to use it and to of course tell everyone that I made it myself!
Materials: Fancy Door Knobs, Wood, Paint
Paint your wood white to give it a shabby chic and finished look
Pencil equidistant spaces along the wood where you’d like your knobs to go. Then use a drill to make a whole in the wood. Don’t be afraid to use that drill. You can do it girlfriend!!!
Insert the knob screw through one end of the wood and screw on the knob on the top.
Mount to the wall and hang your necklaces from the knobs keeping them organized. So chic!
DIY: Bobby Pin Statement Necklace
You never know when DIY inspiration will hit you. The other day I was lounging in bed watching Lara Spencer on Good Morning America talk about pandas or goats or something when her super fancy necklace caught my attention. It was gold, shiny and literally made me move closer to the TV for a better look! The necklace was gorgeous. It reminded me of something tribal or ancient Egyptian. I was inspired to get crafty…
Materials: Bobby Pins and Ribbon
Be creative when you add the bobby pins to your ribbon. Use different colors and create an interesting pattern… 8 gold, 2 back, repeat…
You can wear it as a statement necklace with your collar popped
Or you can button up your shirt and wear it as an under collar embellishment. There are a million different styling options for this necklace.
