DIY: Metallic Wood Hangers
Spring is almost here and thus Spring cleaning has begun. First up… my closet! One cannot begin the process of purchasing a new Spring wardrobe until you figure out what you have, what you need, what fits and well.. what doesn’t. While organizing, I felt now is the best time to also give the hangers in my closet a makeover. One key to an organized closet is uniformed hangers. A coat of metallic silver spray paint is sure to give my closet the most glam Spring cleaning yet!
Materials: Wood Hangers, Metallic Spray Paint, Painters Tape
I scooped up these hangers from The Container Store (pack of 6 for $8).
Use painters tape to cover the metal hook
Spray!!! Be sure to cover the hanger from all angles. One coat of paint should be sufficient.
Allow at least one hour to make sure the paint is completely dry
This quick and easy transformation really turns my boring hangers into fun display pieces. My closet now feels like a fancy boutique.
There are so many makeover options for your wood hangers. You could paint them neon, decoupage them, gold leaf them (ummmm hello Krylon gold leafing pen!) or wrap them in colorful thread, and on and on. Check out my Pinterest pinspiration board (here) for more fun DIY ideas.

DIY: Metallic Skinny Belt + How I Wore It
Looks like I’m going through a belt phase. There was the embellished belt, then the feather peplum belt and now…the metallic skinny belt. I’ve been eying this skinny metal belt for the past few season but when I saw Tina Fey looking va-va-voom on the SAG awards red carpet this weekend I knew I had to do it! The skinny metallic belt has be a hit on the red carpet this award season. Both Jennifer Lawrence and Marion Cotillard rocked the trend at the Golden Globes. This project is easy, breezy and I’m excited to add this new belt to my collection.
Materials: Brass Plate*, Two Yards of Ribbon, Glue
*I used a K&S Engineering brass plate for this project. Click here for a list of retailers. I made my purchase at my local hardware store. They come in different widths and lengths. Be sure to purchases the smallest width they have. You want the plate to be flexible so that it bends around your waist. The sales associate at the hardware store explained to me that these plates are used for many different projects. He then asked me what I was planning to use it for. I wish I’d had my phone out so I could have snap a photo of the face he made when I told him I was using the plate to making a belt. It was Instagramable! O_o
Tip: The edges aren’t sharp, but if you’re nervous dull down the edges with sandpaper.
Apply a generous amount of glue to your ribbon
Allow some time for your glue to dry. If needed, use clips to hold your ribbon in place while it dries.
Tie a nice, pretty bow in the back for closure.

Holiday DIY: Metallic Garland Wreath With Lights
I have to admit that out of all the Christmas decorations, wreaths have never been my thing. Growing up my Mom would spend hundred of dollars to have Christmas wreaths custom made. They were always very elaborate. They’d have dried fruit or frosted (If you’re from the South you know what I mean by frosted) evergreens hanging from them, but I was never impressed. Although, recently I’ve seen a few tutorials floating around the web (aka Pinterest) for these metallic garland wreaths and I fell in love. I just had to give one a shot. I hope you’re as into it as I am!

DIY: Metallic Trim Tuxedo Pants
Turkey day is two days away and I couldn’t be more excited! Bring on the food, family, friends and the football games. My entire goal of Thanksgiving is to not count a single calorie and eat any and everything I want to! In order to achieve my goal I’ll need the proper attire. Jeans are absolutely out for obvious reasons so I’m guessing it’s time to dress up a pair of my most comfy sweatpants so they’re dinner table appropriate.
Style Notes: Jacket available at Target.
Materials: Sweatpants, Trim, Iron On Adhesive Tape
