DIY: Metallic Gold Desk Lamp
This Sunday Hollywood is throwing a big ole party for a little man named Oscar! Now imagine if the award show was sponsored by Krylon and once an actor won they were handed a boring grey metal statue and a can of metallic gold spray paint. They were then escorted backstage where cameras were set up to capture them actually spray paint their Oscar statue LIVE. Not that would be a show worth watching! LOL
You guys know how I love to take something ordinary and transform it to extraordinary with a few coats of spray paint. Remember Olly the owl? (Click here if you don’t) He was salvaged from the $1 store and now lives the most fantastic and glamorous life on my shelf. Today it’s time for my boring desk lamp is get a new lease on life.
Materials: Desk Lamp (available at Target), Krylon Metallic Gold Spray Paint
The Krylon Metallic Paint is great! I love the color and it dries within 15 minutes. It took only 2 coats to make my lamp shine.
While I was at it, I gave Roberto the rabbit (Smith & Hawken available at Target) a make over too!

DIY: Distressed Gold Leaf Vase
It’s Academy Awards week here in LA and the city is buzzing in anticipation for the big night. The traffic on Hollywood Blvd. is a nightmare, they’ve closed down my neighborhood park so they can start setting up for Elton John’s Oscar view party and my stylist friends have gone MIAAA (Missing In Academy Awards Action). Awwwww the excitement!
With all the golden madness surrounding the Oscars I figured I’d dedicate this week to all gold everything on Glitter ‘N Glue. While we may never receive an Oscar statue in our lifetime that doesn’t mean that our shelves can’t be adorned golden goodies. There are many different ways to craft the Midas touch and today we’re play with the gold leaf paper. I’ve seen these gold leafed jars and vases floating around Pinterest and I’m just obsessed. They’re so easy to make and oh so chic.
Materials: A Vase, Gold Leafing Paper, Gold Leaf Adhesive, Gold Leaf Sealant, Paint Brush
The gold leafing process is simple but takes a little practice. However, the great thing about the distressed look of this project is that imperfection is key. The perfect application of the leafing paper is not necessary. First, apply a thin layer of the adhesive to the areas of your vase you wish to make gold. After you’ve allowed time for your glue to set and get sticky, carefully place your gold leafing paper over your glue. Use a dry brush to remove any access paper. A bristle brush will help your obtain that distressed look. Once you’re satisfied with the way the leafing looks on your vase, apply a thin coat of sealant to set the paper. Allow time to dry before use.
NOTE: The process is generally the same but be sure to read the instruction provided with your brand of leafing materials just to be sure you’re doing it properly.
Now it’s time to add a little color
I’m a sucker for fresh flowers. If you live in LA you have to make it downtown to the Flower Mart. You’ll have to wake up early early for the good deals but trust me it’s work the trip. If you’re not in LA or prefer to sleep in on the weekends Trader Joe’s grocery store always has wonderful deals on pretty flowers. If there’s not a Trader Joe’s in your neighborhood…I’m very, very sorry. You ought to pick up the phone, call Mr. Joe and tell him he’s welcome in your neighborhood. It’s a FAB market.
What I love most about this vase is that you can see the stems on the inside but yet the bottom is still decorative. Kinda like the clear phone of the 90s… or not. I plan on making a few more like this. All different shapes and sizes, but all golden. Maybe even a mason jar or two. Oh the possibilities!
Holiday DIY: Metallic Garland Wreath With Lights
I have to admit that out of all the Christmas decorations, wreaths have never been my thing. Growing up my Mom would spend hundred of dollars to have Christmas wreaths custom made. They were always very elaborate. They’d have dried fruit or frosted (If you’re from the South you know what I mean by frosted) evergreens hanging from them, but I was never impressed. Although, recently I’ve seen a few tutorials floating around the web (aka Pinterest) for these metallic garland wreaths and I fell in love. I just had to give one a shot. I hope you’re as into it as I am!

Decor DIY: Olly the Spray Painted Owl
I made a trip to the dollar store this morning and walked out with a new friend. Meet Olly. Olly didn’t always look like this. He’s is different, special and with the help of two coats of Krylon’s metallic gold spray paint he now shines as the centerpiece of my table top. Go Olly go!!!!
DECOR DIY: Chalkboard Paint Frame
I know I promised a feather post this week but that will have to wait because I’ve discovered Krylon’s CHALKBOARD SPRAY PAINT! Ok full disclosure, I’ve owned this frame for over 5 years. I picked it up from Ikea when I first moved to LA and it’s been in my closet ever since. I finally hung it on the wall about a month ago, but never did anything special to it. Yes, it’s been hanging on my wall with all the Ikea paperwork still in it. My parents were in town last week and my Mom WOULD NOT LET IT GO! Every time she entered my apartment the first words out of her mouth were, “When are you going to do something with that thing?” So here you go Mom…I finally did something with it!
The products produced by Krylon have changed my life. We all know I’m obsessed with their neon spray paints, right? Well now you can add their chalkboard paint to the list. It’s so easy to use. Simply clean off the surface you want to be chalkboarded (<- new word!), shake the can and spray!
Seriously this product is beyond amazing. It goes on smooth and is dry to the touch in about 30 minutes. However, I’d give it a full 24 hours to dry before you start chalking.
This $8 can of chalkboard paint has changed the entire look of my entry way. Now before I leave my house I’m hit with a little inspiration that carries me on my way. There are so many things you could do with a can of Krylon’s chalkboard spray paint. I went a little crazy yesterday on Pinterest pinning some inspirations.
