Met Gala Inspired DIY: Oversized Sequin Embellished Pocket
Last night was the Met Gala in New York and THANK GOD Vogue.com was streaming the red carpet live because my invitation must have gotten lost in the mail. Who needs to get all fancy and mingle on fashion’s hottest red carpet with loads of celebrities and designers while they can sit at their desk in this seasons chicest sweats and watch the carpet online while munching on gold fish? And what a show it was! So many amazing gowns. I loved all the yellow and the metallics. Even everyone favorite current obsession peplum showed up for the festivities.
The Met Gala is all about inspiration and when Gwyneth Paltrow hit the carpet in her Prada mini (side boob and all) I was instantly inspired. Her oversized sequin pockets were screaming DIY me!!!!!! Now the last thing I need is a sequin pocket sitting on my hip but I used her dress as inspiration to glam up a plain white tee.
Materials: Shirt, Sequin Fabric, Iron On Hem Tape, Scissors, An Iron
Delicately cut the sequin fabric to your desired pocket size.
I left my pocket squared you might want to round the edges. If the sequins are falling off the edges apply a small amount of clear fingernail polish to keep them in place, but once you apply them to the shirt they should all stay in place.
Now it’s really important that for this next part you follow the directions that came with your iron on hem tape.
Place the hem tape on 3 of the 4 edges leaving the top edge open to create a pocket. Here’s a DIYer’s tip…in order to protect the sequins from melting DO NOT iron directly onto the sequin fabric. Place a light cotton fabric between the iron and the sequins.
Plain white tee with DIY sequin pocket pairs great with my denim on denim

I love this. Simple, easy, and mega cute!
